Palestine Islamic Bank Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education to Support Scientific Research
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, represented by its Minister, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Muweis, and Palestine Islamic Bank, represented by its General Manager, Bayan Qasem, have signed a cooperation agreement to support scientific research.
The agreement included the launching of the Palestine Islamic Bank Scientific Research Award for 2020; which shall be organized and administered by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to funding workshops to promote scientific research in Palestine.
Abu Muweis stressed the strong partnership, integration and harmony between the government and the private sector towards attainment of sustainable development; underlining the need to work within the national priorities to achieve such.
The Minister of Higher Education stated that his ministry plans to build a Palestinian central research repository, a national fund for scientific research and a Palestinian digital library; stressing that such requires support from the private sector.
He also added that such awards are considered an incentive for researchers to develop their research in a manner intended to reflect positively on the economic and social reality notwithstanding the added-value to knowledge; explaining that the workshops that will be implemented within the framework of the agreement shall prepare researchers to compete for scientific research awards.
Furthermore, Abu Muweis thanked PIB for its continuous support to the Ministry of Higher Education, which is not only limited to scientific research; but is also made available to many areas in the field of education in Palestine.
For his part, Bayan Qasem, General Manager of PIB, emphasized the Bank’s interest in supporting scientific research in Palestine and its tireless endeavor to encourage researchers to innovate and increase research production; considering that the “Palestine Islamic Bank Scientific Research Award” comes as part of the Bank’s efforts in social responsibility to support the education sector.
“We launched the award five years ago and we are moving on to a new phase, in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, whereas this step shall enhance the research landscape in Palestine”, said Qasem; noting that this partnership promotes integration between the roles of the institutions of the private and public sectors.
Qasem also pointed out that the efforts of PIB are mainly focused on supporting vital sectors, especially the education and health sectors, due to the direct impact in which these two sectors have on the lives of individuals and on society; noting that the Bank allocates the bulk of its social responsibility program budget towards supporting these sectors and their components, respectively.
Furthermore, Qasem thanked the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, represented by HE Dr. Mahmoud Abu Muweis, for their distinguished efforts in promoting scientific research in Palestine; while praising the solid relationship linking both institutions.
