Ministry of Higher Education and PIB Sign Cooperation Agreement to Launch Scientific Research Award

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Mahmoud Abu Mowais, and General Manager of Palestine Islamic Bank (PIB), Imad al-Sadi, signed a cooperation agreement to launch the “Palestine Islamic Bank Award for Scientific Research 2021”, in support and promotion of scientific research, entrepreneurship and innovation in Palestine.

The award covers several areas, mainly the impact of financial technology on financial and banking services sector, teaching and learning in the technology and artificial intelligence era, quality assurance in banking and higher education institutions, applied science and its role in promoting local production, and studying health sciences within the Palestinian context.

In this regard, Abu Mowais said that "under the guidance of His Excellency, President Mahmoud Abbas, and Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, cooperation and integration with social institutions, both civil and private, are among our main priorities in the National Strategic Plan to achieve meaningful human development that will contribute to sustainable development.”

The Minister valued the partnership with PIB and the Bank’s support to higher education, especially scientific research., affirming the commitment and focus of

the Ministry to promote and direct scientific research to meet the needs of Palestinian society.

“Our institutions responded to the call of social responsibility”, Abu Mowais added. “PIB was one of the first institutions to support higher education and its institutions, as well as scientific research and the Student Loan Fund, which contribute to promoting distinctive educational outcome and meaningful and productive scientific research.”

On his part, al-Sadi said that PIB attaches great importance to support scientific research process in Palestine as a basis for sustainable development, pointing out that this award has become on the Bank's annual agenda due to its importance in encouraging researchers to increase their research activities and to conduct original and specialized research that adds new value to our knowledge.

He added, "We regularly increase our support to the educational sector as part of our sustainable social responsibility program, with scientific research at the forefront due to its importance in achieving development based on science, knowledge and innovation.”

Al-Sadi emphasized the importance of cooperation between public and private sectors in supporting scientific research; which positively reflects on promoting development and serving national economy. He praised the efforts of the Ministry of Higher Education in providing necessary environment to promote scientific research and raising the quality of higher education output to attain a distinguished level worldwide.

PIB devotes most of its social responsibility program to supporting health and education sectors as vital and essential parts of global Sustainable Development Goals, which forms the general framework for the Bank’s social responsibility policy.
