Palestine Islamic Bank Awards a Special Grant for a Person with Disability

On the Occasion of Arab Financial Inclusion Day

On the Occasion of Arab Financial Inclusion Day, Palestine Islamic awarded a special grant for a person with disability. The grant will enable the awardee to launch his own small business to help him achieve his financial independence, in a way that meets one of the Bank’s most important strategies of financial inclusion in Palestine, which is reflected in integrating people with special needs and empower them financially.

30 years old Waseem Abweh received a grant from PIB that supported him to purchase a portable carwash, which facilitates his access to his clients and perform the needed job when their cars are parked whether in their private parking spots or to companies and big institutions’ parking lots.

Waseem’s project is very compatible with his condition, since he’s deaf-mute, his innovative project that responds to clients through text messages on his phone, is sought to enable him achieving a bigger goal in the new future.

PIB’s grant to Waseem helped him purchase the device, while the Bank’s staff put him through a tailored made program financial education program to enable him to manage his finances and work professionally.

Mr. Bayan Qasem; PIB General Manage said that this support is compatible with the financial inclusion policy followed by the Palestine Monetary Authority, which aims at integrating all people regardless of their backgrounds into the banking system, by encouraging citizens to benefit from the Palestinian Financial System, adding that Palestine Islamic Bank carries a commitment towards this policy and work on strengthening it through its activities.

Mr. Qasem added that Waseem’s idea has been highly acclaimed by the bank because it is innovative and have a positive and sustainable impact on his family and makes a real difference.

February 2018, the Bank announced a call for proposals targeting people with special needs to apply for a grant to start their own small business. The Bank received dozens of ideas that were researched, explored and analyzed thoroughly. Pointing to Waseem’s perseverance, diligence and innovation in presenting a distinguished project that gave him the right to receive the grant.

Mr. Qasem stressed that Palestine Islamic Bank took the lead in adapting its facilities and services to the needs of people with disabilities, and that it continues to improve its response to the needs of this important category in the society. He pointed out that the bank’s step in supporting small projects for people with special needs will not be the last in improving their integration into society and will be followed by other steps that strengthen this approach, especially through its program of social responsibility.
