Palestine Islamic Bank Receives Gold-Level Green Building Certification for Its Central Archives Building
A New Milestone in the Bank’s Environmental Conservation Efforts
The Palestine Higher Green Building Council awarded Palestine Islamic Bank the Gold-Level Green Building Certificate for the Bank’s Central Archives Building.
The certificate was presented and the gold plaque for this classification was unveiled during a ceremony held at the Central Archive Building in Nablus, in the presence of Dr. Imad Al-Sadi, General Manager of Palestine Islamic Bank; Eng. Tariq Abdel Majeed Al-Zaro, President of the Palestinian Engineers Syndicate and President of the Palestinian Higher Green Building Council; and a number of managers from both sides.
The Central Archives Building received this classification after meeting the approved standards for sustainability, energy efficiency, and resource management under the Palestinian Rating System.
Palestine Islamic Bank General Manager Dr. Imad Al-Sadi stated that this achievement reflects the Bank’s Board of Directors’ standing directives to apply environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and promote sustainability across all of the Bank’s activities.
Al-Sadi added: “The green building classification is more than just a certificate; it reflects our commitment to applying best practices in design, construction, and operation, as well as achieving greater efficiency in resource use. It also reaffirms our commitment to environmental protection throughout our strategies and operations, in line with our sustainability policies. These policies help reduce the Bank’s carbon footprint and embody our vision of developing facilities that strike a balance between high operational performance and environmental conservation.”
Al-Sadi affirmed that the Central Archives Building was designed in accordance with the latest standards for environmentally friendly green buildings. It incorporates modern technologies for energy conservation, generation, and recovery, using advanced solar energy solutions. He thanked the Palestine Higher Green Building Council and the Palestinian Engineers Syndicate for their efforts to protect the environment by promoting the development of environmentally friendly green buildings.
For his part, Eng. Tariq Abdel Majeed Al-Zaro, President of the Palestinian Engineers Syndicate, stated that the Gold Rating Certificate awarded to Palestine Islamic Bank’s Central Archive Building in Nablus, in accordance with the standards of the Palestinian Higher Green Building Council, represents a significant milestone in embedding the culture of green building in Palestine. He added that it also supports the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable built environment that optimizes the use of resources, protects the environment, and provides a better-quality experience for building users.
He noted that the project, with a total built-up area of approximately 1,325 square meters, demonstrates the feasibility of applying green building concepts and standards to Palestinian projects in a manner consistent with local needs and climatic conditions.
Al-Zaro further noted that, since the establishment of the Palestine Higher Green Building Council in 2010, the Palestinian Engineers Syndicate has worked to develop a professional framework for assessing green building projects through clearly defined stages and criteria, culminating in the granting of accreditation and classification certificates. This framework enhances project quality and encourages institutions and the private sector to adopt sustainable building practices.
He commended the efforts of the Steering and Technical Committees, experts, engineers, and institutions supporting this approach. He also affirmed the Association’s continued commitment to supporting initiatives and projects that promote the concept of green building and develop engineering capabilities in this field, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future, protecting the environment, and improving the quality of life in Palestine.
The Central Archives Building is the most advanced facility of its kind in Palestine. It is also equipped with sophisticated electromechanical systems that protect it against fire and humidity, regulate temperature levels, and ensure proper ventilation, as well as state-of-the-art automated sorting and archiving systems.
